NEW WREN MW-54 Mk4! Now available is the new MW-54 Mk4 engine. Producing over 14 lbs thrust at 160,000 rpm, this engine is particularly cool running with a throttle response (which was already good) that is now amazingly fast! From a kit builders point of view the centering of the fromt of the engine is much less critical, as the clearances in this area are much larger than on the Mk3. NOW TAKING ORDERS FOR THE NEW MW-44 TURBO-PROP AND TURBO-HELI! To be available before the end of the year, the new MW-44 turbo-prop/turbo-heli engine is a beautifully engineered engine that delivers BIG performance in a small package. The engine is now available. Specifications for the engine can be found here. NOW AVAILABLE! THE XL200! Another Wren masterpiece comes to market with in this 35lb thrust powerhouse! Measuring 120mm in diameter (4.75"), this engine is only 20mm (3/4") longer than the MW-54! The engine is now available. Specifications for the engine can be found here. |
Now available, this new Wren engine offers big performance producing 35+ lbs thrust! The following are some comments from Wren.
Why is it called "XL200"? XL reflects the fact that the engine is Xtra Large compared with the MW54 and MW44. The 200 reflects our weight target for the engine with ECU and pump - 2 kilos or less.
This engine looks different from others in that thrust category - shorter and fatter. Why is that? We decided to use a 120mm diameter case instead of the more usual 110mm. Some engines in the 16kg class have had problems and we felt that much of this was due to having to squeeze out the maximum possible thrust from a smaller compressor, diffuser and turbine wheel. By using the larger diameter we have given ourselves more room for future development and also, we hope, increased reliability. However, we have been able to shorten the engine considerably when compared with those of our competitors, because we have a lot of experience in making short combustion chambers. This has resulted in a considerable weight saving over other 120mm diameter engines and the XL200 is only 20mm longer than the MW54. The XL200 will also be the only engine in its class with an integral FOD screen, as used on all Wren engines.

Perfect for JHI line of aircraft, the Wren MW-44 "Gold" engine is an upgraded version of the MW-44 7 lb. thrust turbine engine. Through optimization of the engine RPM and diffuser design, this engine now produces 10 lbs of thrust with a faster spool up! This is the smallest production turbine available in the world being basically the size of a soda can. The MW-44 "Gold" is the production version and is available only as a factory assembled item. FOD screen as shown below is available as an option. See engine pricing.

Based on the MW-44 engine, the turbo-prop harnesses the power of the MW-44 turbine with a gear box, creating a powerful turbo-prop/heli engine in a light weight and compact package! These engines can be used for turbo-prop aircraft (straight gear box) or turbo-shaft helicopter (90 degree gear box) operations. The gearbox is driven pneumatically using the engine exhaust gases to drive a second "free turbine" as opposed to a direct planetary type gearbox.

Recently entering into production is the much anticipated MW-54 SuperSport 18 lb thrust turbine. Packaged into the MW-54 size and weighing just over 2 lbs, this engine gives big performance at a fraction of the weight of other engines available in this thrust class. This has been achieved through optimizing engine efficiency and with a higher compression ratio. This sets new standards for performance and efficiency for such a small size turbine!
